Chau Old Site!

It’s been fun old site, we’ve had some good times, but its time to go. It’s over. Done, hecho, kaput. I hold no hard feelings towards you, even though you’ve been problematic at times. The beginning of our relationship was a rollercoaster of emotions. Ecstatic highs and terrible lows. You introduced to half the city, you opened the door to BA like few see. And for that I am forever indebted to you. But everything must come to an end. And quite frankly I’m glad your leaving.

Hello new site! New site breathes fresh air. It’s simpler to use, more effective in offering information and basically has gone where the web has gone. The days of intricate interfaces and flash based presentations is over, at least for information driven sites. It’s got new features (Photography & Hot List), a new aesthetic and lots of new content. We’re as happy as can be. And we hope you are too. Enjoy.

Whats Up in 2007, and you don’t stop.

And now the history of WUBA in photos & graphics.

Chau Old Site!
Grant comes back from Brasil all tan and thin and starts kicking around ideas for a new project.
Chau Old Site!
The beginnings of Whats Up Buenos Aires actually starts in Rosario! Rodrigo introduces us to Sebastian Livingston and we travel to Rosario to kick our crazy design ideas to an amazing designer.
Chau Old Site!
A make-shift office is set up in a 3 bedroom apartment in Palermo and the work begins.
Chau Old Site!
The WUBA crew wastes no time getting to know all the players in the scene.
Chau Old Site!
Pabloco also known as "el guru" to half of the city, fixes and fine tunes our production equipment. Without this cat we´d still be trying to hook up Wi-Fi. There´s no secret he´s known as the guru, his hands work magic with anything electric, mechanical or technological. Aguante Pabloco.
Chau Old Site!
We do a beta-launch in July and get a flyer ready for our first party...
Chau Old Site!
Funkdamental. We sponsor and put the visual installation and visuals together for the event that draws 1,000 hip-hoperos. This is the first of hundereds of events to come.
Chau Old Site!
The hip hop party was a raging success and we decide to focus our promotional and cultural participation of the website in the city on producing events. We are a DJ + VJ team of two with a new website with buzz. The city responds. This is a WUBA typical week in November. (The above flyer is an email blast for a weekend of events).
Chau Old Site!
Whats Up San Telmo is a weekly Sunday event where we put a big screen on a crowded street and invited DJs, VJs and artistic projects to show their wares.
Chau Old Site!
All the visual productions we were doing around the festival and underground circuit caught the eye of the big corporations and by December we were working for Motorola, Unilever and Ogilvy at their end of the year party extravaganzas.
Chau Old Site!
2005 starts off slooowwwww due to the nightclub fire in late December 2004. Everybody in event production, artists, producers, owners, musicians, take a hit. We continue to do visuals in the electronic tango scene, particulary with Tanghetto & Narcotango.
Chau Old Site!
WUBA goes through changes and launches its 3rd version with new designer Maurinho. New flyer in streets.
Chau Old Site!
The city gets back on its feet and we do too, we try Wednesday night Funk + Live Music parties in a small basement in Palermo Bollywood. Mos Def said it best.
Chau Old Site!
The basement parties are amazing. Fran Di Gianni & Los No Invitados, Kealto! and a handfull of VJs make this tiny spot a place to be during the Spring of 05.
Chau Old Site!
We´re still doing VJ work when the festival circuit comes around again. This one here with one of our favorite BA band of all times, Sexteto Irreal.
Chau Old Site!
2006 starts with more cultural action. We quickly do 2 huge events in the first part of the year, both draw lots of hype, people and the authorities to shut us down. They succeed only once. This is the flyer for a Tuesday night cocktail and party we threw for the BA film festival, BAFICI.
Chau Old Site!
IES and the universe send us an amazing trio of interns.
Chau Old Site!
Diplo comes into town and we travel deep into the Villa where Fantasma, an amazing barbecue and cumbia await. This is my first real taste of cumbia too. This is also the start of what 2006 holds in store, a lot more Latin American sounds at a future WUBA weekly production. Looking for new sounds we meet Nim and Bomboclap records. Funny how a visitor from out of town could have so much to do with everything.
Chau Old Site!
Oro11 & Diplo on the balcony of No Definitivo inauguration. Zarpado.
Chau Old Site!
Mid 2006 we launch yet another variation on the original website. This time with advertisers!
Chau Old Site!
WUBA, Good Airs, (pre)Wicked and (1/3)The Rub representing in Puente Alsina. Aguante Lanus loco.
Chau Old Site!
2 year anniversary party at the newly formed Wednesday night party, Zizek.
Chau Old Site!
By X-Mas its one happy family. WUBA and Zizek crew working a fancy nightclub on Christmas eve? Yeah, why not.
Chau Old Site!
2007 starts with a new creative space and turntables and barbecue pits taking advantage of it.
Chau Old Site!
Zizek continues to dominate the circuit. WUBA´s 3 years of producing events and working with hundereds of artists has culminated with this party, a mix of Latin American rhythms with modern technology. Global implications follow.
Chau Old Site!
The WUBA team grows to almost 20. Work work workin it.
Chau Old Site!
New website with new designer Von Jobenstien and there´s no stopping us now. New flyer out in the street.
